It was learned from Chenzhou Archives Bureau that on January 24, 1945- the second day of falling of Chenxian, the puppet army mopped up the headquarters of Chenzhou division which was retreated to Dakuishang (now is in Wugaishan town of Suxian district). The battle was called Dakuishang Defending War.
Huang Chuande- former Curator of Chenzhou Archive Bureau presented an archive with the file number of 597 and name of “telegraphs between puppet armies and governments”.
Record of Dakuishan battle
Huang Chuande introduced Dakuishang battle to the reporters on the basis of the archives. It was happened on January 25, 1945. Because of the great disparity between the enemy and us and poor defending condition of our side, it was really hard to defeat the enemy.
As shown on No. 597 file: “the enemy attacked Dakuishang via Jinquantang, Wushijiang, Wugaishan, and etc. Each part of the enemy was about 100-400 people and was equipped with small-sized gun, grenade launcher, and etc. There were over 2000 enemies in total.” In order to save the power, our army decided to remove to the border of Zixing and Rucheng.
According to the data recorded on page 39 of the file: “the enemy robbed the goods and destroyed furniture in every village they passed by.” As you can imagine, Chenzhou people suffered great loss from the invasion. But there is no specified figure of the death recorded on the file.
It was introduced by Huang Chuande that though our army paid great to win this battle, more confidence was gained by Chenzhou militaries and people to defeat the enemy. It was just like the darkest hour before the dawn.
