Zhang Jichun

Zhang Jichun (1900-1968)was born in Yizhang County of Hunan Province. In 1926, he joined the CPC and during the Agrarian Revolution, he sequentially engaged in the Southern Hunan Uprising, Jinggang Moutain Fighting and the Long March. During the Anti-Japanese War, he held the posts of the vice director of the Rear Political Department belonging to the Eighth Route Army, the director of the Political Department in Suide Military Area, the director of the Political Department in the Chinese Anti-Japan Military and Political University, the Secretary of the Administrative Affairs of this university, the Commissar of the University Political Commission and president of the Political and Military Commission, being responsible for the leading work of this university. During the Liberation War, he held the post of political Commissar of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Military Region and its field army group and also the chief of the political department. After the establishment of PRC, he worked as the administrative vice minister of the Publicity Department and director of the Cultural and Education Affair Office of the State Council. He was also a member of the 8th CPC central committee, and the delegate to the first, second and third NPC.
