Chenzhou City is located in the south of Hunan Province and the upper reaches of Xiangjiang River, Zhujiang River and Ganjiang River. It abuts the Five Ridges in the south and the Hengshan Mountain in the north. The longitude is between 112.13 and 114.14 degrees east, and the latitude is between 24.53 and 26.50 degrees north.

 

Due to its special geographic location, Chenzhou City is acclaimed as the south gate of Hunan Province and the back garden of Guangdong Hongkong and Macao. The downtown area is 350 kilometers away from Changsha City, capital of Hunan Province, 150 kilometers away from Hengyang City, 260 kilometers away from Yongzhou City, 289 kilometers away from Zhuzhou City, 393 kilometers away from Guangzhou City, capital of Guangdong Province, and 364 kilometers away from Ganzhou City of Jiangxi Province.
 
The administrative center of the city people's government is situated at the east side of Wuling Square, No.9 of Wuling Avenue. Chenzhou City administers 11 counties/county-level cities/ districts including Beihu District, Suxian District, Guiyang County, Yizhang County, Yongxing County, Jiahe County, Linwu County, Rucheng County, Guidong County, Anren County and Zixing City. Below the county level, there are 164 townships (including 11 townships of Yao nationality), 86 towns and 7 subdistrict administrative offices.
 
Chenzhou City covers an area of 19,388 square meters, and boasts a population of 4.5824 million and 25 ethnic groups like Man nationality and Miao nationality.
