Guanlan Academy, founded during the reign of Emperor Shaoding in the Southern Song Dynasty (1231 AD) and rebuilt many times, was Cao family’s academy. A Number One Scholar (the one who won the first prize in an imperial examination) called Cao Yiben, and six imperial scholars once studied here. Now it is a cultural relics protection unit of Hunan Province.
