A ceremony was held on April 1 at Hunan Forest Botanical Garden to mark the start of the province's Bird-Loving Week in 2012. Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress Cai Lifeng attended the ceremony.

The Bird-Loving Week this year was themed with "loving, protecting and watching birds to share the beauty of nature". A series of activities will be carried out by the Hunan Provincial Forestry Department, including an exhibition around Dongting Lake to publicize scientific and technological knowledge in this aspect. A special mark for Hunan's Bird-Loving Week was put into use.

To shoulder the responsibility of protecting birds in the province, the Hunan Provincial Department of Forestry has exerted great efforts in raising the public's awareness of bird protection and ecological civilization, ensuring the safety of birds migrating through and inhabiting Hunan, and breeding endangered species, said Deng Sanlong, secretary of the Party Committee at the Hunan Provincial Department of Forestry.

The event effectively promoted the protection of birds and, in the meantime, the harmony of man and nature.
