Hu Yanting，the representative of youth Kunqu opera actress，was practicing the opera accompanied with whistle players when reporters arrived. Hu gained the excellent opera awards on the 5th China (Suzhou) Kunqu opera festival by acting “the romance of hairpin”. Hu considered that all her achievements should be owned to Hunan Kunqu opera troupe’s new cultivation mechanism, with which she was well trained by many famous teachers and was greatly influenced by their passion towards Kunqu opera.

It was introduced by the commander of Hunan Kunqu opera troupe- Luo Yan that with years of efforts on talent training, the troupe was formed with different aged actors. Every year, the troupe will invite at least 3 masters to give the lessons and 3 batches of staff will be sent to Beijing, Suzhou, Shanghai and other places to study. Now, more young actors of the troupe are becoming famous in national Kunqu opera filed.

Besides the talent training, the fine works of Kunqu opera are key points concerning the development of Kunqu opera troupe. Classic operas and selected scenes with unique Hunan Kunqu characteristics were inherited by the troupe. More than 30 scenes are available for the troupe now, some of which like “the romance of hairpin”, “the rabbit”, “the party member stele” and others are the special skillful works for the troupes now.

In order to expand Hunan Kunqu opera, the troupe tried different ways to show its capability, like performing special shows on the important activities, attending contests and enhancing communications with different cultures. In April, with the theme of “dating with Chenzhou –cross-strait Kunqu opera communication shows”, Hunan Kunqu opera troupe performed together with some cross-strait troupes, which greatly popularized Hunan Kunqu opera and now it becomes one of the famous cultural name card for Chenzhou city.

Hunan Kunqu opera troupe, which is one of the seven Kunqu opera troupes of China, was established in 1960. It is an exclusive professional Kunqu opera in the six provinces of central China and southwest of China. It was approved as China’s famous art troupe by Culture Ministry and State Art Talents Center in 2000. Chenzhou municipal party committee and Chenzhou government paid much attention to the development of Kunqu opera, not only listing it into the city construction plan, but in “another three-year plan” as well.
