Happy elders

The elder people in home care station of Simadong community, Beihu district enjoyed a warm day on November 13, 2012. That was the day for the opening ceremony of the station, and volunteers performed some excellent programs for the elders.

Different types of programs like opera, duet, guitar laying, dancing etc. were presented to the elders. Though most of the volunteers are amateur art lovers, their loving shows still made the old people have a very nice day.

Besides the performances, the community center prepared dumplings for the old people. Grandma Xiao who is from 240 mining was moved to tears when eating the loving dumplings and said: “too much thanks for the sound policies from the state and community.”

There are 879 old people aged over 60 years in Simadong community. Among them, the empty-nests elders accounted for 30%. Their husbands used to contribute greatly to China’s nuke industry in 1950s-1960s. From this March, the Simadong community invested over 0.2 million yuan on establishing home care serving centers with the highlight of serving for elders and innovating home care modes.

Concerning the empty-nest elders, the home care service station of Simadong community provides different activities to enrich their daily lives. Meanwhile, much more cares are called from the community to take care of the elders voluntarily.
