On December 5, an International Volunteer Day, volunteers of Chenzhou city took a series of activities to advocate the volunteer spirit. On November 4, 2012, together with Chenzhou Municipal Youth League Committee, the volunteer team of Chenzhou Nataional Tax Bureau went to Nanshuijie primary school to visit the migrant farmer workers’ children.
Nanshuijie primary school is a typical mountain school with poor condition. There are just 52 students in the school and most of their parents work outside the village, so they have to live with their grandparents. The volunteers donated television, DVD, sports goods, stationeries, toys, etc. to the school and played together with the children, who were so happy when getting those new books. It was learned that Chenzhou Municipal Youth League Committee had carried out some similar volunteer activities from 2010 in order to take care of the migrant farmer workers’ children, helping to bring the social care to them and let children feel the warmth from the whole society. On December 2, 2012, together with a loving enterprise, volunteers carried out an auction activity. All the money raised in the auction would be donated to the poverty -stricken students. Meanwhile, volunteers went to a special school for those disabled children and donated toys to them. Furthermore, with the help of the loving enterprise, volunteers donated 430 kilograms of rice to the poverty- stricken families.

International Volunteer Day (IVD)- (December 5) is an international observance designated by the United Nations since 1985. It offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make visible their contributions - at local, national and international levels - to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The International Volunteer Day is marked by many non-governmental organizations, including Red Cross, scouts and others. It is also marked and supported by United Nations Volunteers.
Apart from mobilizing thousands of volunteers every year, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme works closely with partners and governments to establish national volunteer programs to create structures that foster and sustain local volunteerism in countries. Through the Online Volunteering service volunteers can take action for sustainable human development by supporting the activities of development organizations over the Internet. Every day thousands of people are volunteering, online or on-site, contributing to peace and development and working to achieve the MDGs.
On International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December 2012, we celebrate our commitment and hope for a better world. The main focus of IVD 2012 is awareness of and recognition for volunteers and volunteer organizations. The purpose is to recognize this commitment, to inform people about the impact of volunteering on peace and sustainable development, and to applaud volunteers for their dedication and impact.
