It was learned from Zixing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that 93 indexes of Dongjiang Lake water meet drinking water sanitary standards well after tested by Hunan CDCP detection.

To carry out the policy “prevention first”, to supply residents with sanitary drinking water, and ensure the health of people, authorized by Zixing government, Hunan CDCP collected the water samples from the dam dock of Dongjiang Lake and upstream of small dongjiang river at the end of July 2012. In accordance to the PRC national standard - “drinking water sanitary standard” （GB5749-2006）, Dongjiang lake water met all the 93 regular and irregular indexes standards.

Dongjiang Lake covers 160 square meters of water surfaces with the water retention capacity of 8.12 billion cubic meters. Now it is strategic water base for Hunan “two-oriented society” construction. Followed by the concept that protecting Dongjiang Lake is the biggest achievement, Chenzhou and county governments along Dongjiang River tried their best to protect the ecological environment of Dongjiang Lake and strengthen their forces on the continuous protection. On March 1, 2002, Dongjiang Lake became the first artificial lake with the special legislation protection, and Dongjiang Lake water environment protection bureau was established at the same time to be in charge of its protection.

Furthermore, millions of investments were issued for ecological protection in Dongjiang River and its surrounded areas, and comprehensive treatments such as industry structure adjustment, ecological construction, treatment for sanitary sewage and industrial pollution sources, rural environment condition upgrading, etc.. In August, 2012, Dongjiang Lake was successfully listed in the second batch of lake environment protection pilots of China.
