“Living fossil plant”-lobster flower

It was reported that an extraordinary wild flower was discovered in a mountain stream of Zhukeng group, Oujiang town, Guidong county.

The flower which is about 30cms high is herbal and fasciation. Its stem is crisp and tender and leaves are indented. Fuchsia, yellow and white flowers which are with tendrils in one end bloom in every summer. Irregular figures are decorated on the flower body and its stalk looks like a silk thread cross under the green leave. It is called “water network flower” by local villagers, but it was discovered to be “lobster flower” by consulting with some experts.

Lobster flower was available during the Mesozoic Cretaceous period about100 million years ago. But most of them became extinct in Quaternary period’s move of continental glaciers, so the lobster flower is honored as “living fossil plant”. It was the first time to discover the lobster flower in Guidong county which helped to fill the gap that it is without herbal “living fossil plant”.
