Beihu District’s efforts to integrate sports and tourism

The 2024 Hunan Youth Swimming Championship kicked off in Beihu District of Chenzhou City on August 20. Over 1,000 young swimmers competed in the five-day event. Beihu District also launched the 2024 Hunan Youth Synchronized Swimming Championship from August 28 to 29.

In recent years, in addition to hosting international and domestic swimming events, Beihu District has also launched large-scale events such as the National Men’s Water Polo League, National Camping Conference, National Paddleboard Yoga Water Sports Elite Exchange Competition, and National Tourism City Orienteering Series. 
 
According to incomplete statistics, Beihu District launches 108 sports competitions of various levels and types every year, with approximately 200,000 participants in sports events.
 
There are 1,041 sports venues of various types in Beihu District, with a per capita sports area of 2.57 square meters. Various popular fitness events are held all year round, such as square dance competitions, outdoor fitness hiking competitions, basketball games.
 
In Beihu District, “travelling for sports" has become a fashion. In order to promote the deep integration of sports and tourism, Beihu District has specially planned high-quality sports tourism routes, attracting a large number of tourists.
 
As one of the first national model areas for sports and fitness, Beihu District has continued efforts to explore the integration of sports and culture and tourism in the past two years. It has successively built four sports-themed scenic areas, three digital sports cities, and seven bases through various methods. It receives 7.6 million tourists annually, driving the coordinated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries.
 
According to Huang Bin, director of the Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports Bureau of Beihu District, Beihu District will create diversified tourism products based on sports to promote the deep integration of sports and health, culture, education, technology as well as other industries, develop leisure sports tourism, health tourism, as well as extreme sports, and create a number of sports tourism routes as well as boutique events, in a bid to stimulate consumption and increase economic benefits.
