It was learned from the greening city implementation office that the gardeners of Chenzhou city has started the planting work of crape myrtles in Chenzhou city’s main roads, parks and gardens. At the end of September, 50000 crape myrtles will blossom and show their gorgeous shape to all Chenzhou citizens. Crape myrtle is a handsome, summer-flowering, deciduous tree-shrub-groundcover. It has been called the lilac of the south which is valued mainly for its long period of striking summer flowers. With literally hundreds of sizes and colors available, crape myrtles are a terrific, low-maintenance choice for prolific blooms during hot, humid summers.

Crape myrtles bloom in midsummer, with colors including white, lavender, purple, pink, magenta, and red. It was introduced by the principal of the office that most of the planted crape myrtles were red and pink. Till now, all the parks, sceneries, gardens and roads were fulfilled with the planting tasks.

Crape myrtle is valued as a landscape plant for its prolific summer flowers, heat and drought tolerance, and year-round landscape interest. The reason why Chenzhou government approved to plant crape myrtles was that splendid flower view was create to match Chenzhou garden landscape. Meanwhile, the government wanted to impress the citizens with crape myrtles knowledge by this planting, and then confirm whether to add these crape myrtles as Chenzhou city flowers after citizens’ evaluation and votes.

Crape Myrtles truly come in every possible size and shape, from knee-high shrubby dwarf plants to towering tree forms, so it is possible to choose a variety that exactly fits the purpose. For the addition of Myrtle flower, some members expressed support for this, because they considered this colorful and graceful flower was with high ornamental value and was easy to adapt to different environment. They also thought that as the name card of one city, it was important to popularize the city flowers. Further more, some citizens suggested planting some other flowers like China rose to glorify Chenzhou city and form a unique characteristic of Chenzhou vision.
