Growth of Specialized Farmer Cooperatives of Chenzhou Ranks First in Hunan Province

2012-11-15

It was learned from the experience-exchange meeting of Chenzhou specialized farmer cooperatives that there are 1280 registered farmer cooperatives in Chenzhou now, which lists the third place of Hunan province. The total quantity reaches 114% of 2012 year target number with a growth rate of 55.5%, ranking first in Hunan province.

Now the members of the specialized farmer cooperatives reached 94,910, accounting for 9.93% of total farmers in Chenzhou city. There is one national demonstration cooperative, 39 provincial and 73 municipal level demonstration cooperatives available in Chenzhou city.

The development situation of farmer professional cooperatives is good in general, but there are still some disadvantages existing, such as the weak competitiveness, irregular management, less efforts on the cooperative promotion in certain counties, etc..

It was pointed out in the conference that the farmer's specialized cooperative development was still in its initial stage. The government should formulate and implement more favorable policies to encourage and support the development of cooperatives. Meanwhile, some special funds need to be allocated for creating more conductive conditions to the cooperatives. Furthermore, the government should pay more attention on the business guidance, pilot demonstration, project support, information service, training, etc. to guide the cooperatives’ healthy improvement.

Chenzhou Municipal leaders He Wenjun, Li Shangde, Lei Xiaoda and Zhou Hailin attended the conference.
