Activities

In recent years, Yongxing County fully developed the cultural heritage and attached great importance to Dabujiang quilting embroidery which was declared as the intangible cultural heritage protection project in Chenzhou in 2009. After years of promotion and development, Dabujiang quilting art has been out of Yongxing village to open the quilt art workshops and stores in Chenzhou nowadays. Dabujiang quilting art has the new communication and display platform for inheritance and promotion.

Inheritance

The inheritors of Dabujiang quilting embroidery He Juan was born in Dabujiang Yongxing County in 1979. He Juan was very smart and her grandmother, mother, aunt, and her neighbors were good at quilting embroidery, so she was influenced to love the quilting embroidery when she was a child.

In the past three years, as the inheritors of Dabujiang quilting embroidery, He Juan devoted herself to the world of quilting embroidery and concentrated on making many works in her own simple work room, accompanied by loneliness and loneliness. The representative works include the "Mother and son", "Nostalgia", "Thinking", "Butterfly" and so on, which reveal the local conditions and customs of southern Hunan everywhere, simple and elegant. In April 2009, her large print quilting "bride to be married" and other traditional small decorations won the silver medal of the "Challenge Cup" of the University Students. The quilting work "Peking Opera" won the bronze award in the 4th "Art Cup" calligraphy art photography exhibition in Chenzhou with the traditional stitch and colors, and the traditional opera elements in 2011.

From May 13 to May 16, 2011, He Juan's quilting embroidery work "The time has come" as the only exhibiting project of Chenzhou was displayed in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall of the 7th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Expo Fair (ICIF) and won the bronze medal of the "China Arts and Crafts Culture Creative Award" with the unique creativity and profound implication.

Her biggest idea is to continuously improve her own quilting skills and gain a place in the folk art field for the ancient art to become a folk treasure in the southern Hunan Province. "If possible, I also hope that the folk art can be combined with the enterprises and become a brand of Chenzhou tourism market to let this ancient traditional handicraft inheritance and promotion in the future." He Juan believed that the quilting art takes the things around, such as flowers, grass, insects, birds, fish and others as the performance themes to express the spiritual pursuit and the yearning for a better life of the host, which reflects the people's aesthetic pursuit and hobbies in different historical periods, embodies the wisdom and great creativity of the people in southern Hunan region, and has the great significance to study the art and folk in southern Hunan.

Difficulties

Dabujiang quilting art protection faces many problems, including:

1. The awareness of intangible cultural heritage is not enough and the protection consciousness of the masses needs to be strengthened. Although the government has begun to pay more attention to this work, but the word of intangible cultural heritage has emerged in recent years. In addition, the propaganda work is still relatively weak, so people don't know the understanding and division, especially many people are less aware of the protection scope and content and don't know what the concept of intangible cultural heritage and how to protect it. The protection of quilting art has not become a conscious act of the masses because of weak sense of national protection.

2. The cultural environment is worrying. Due to changes in the social environment, the older generation of quilting artists gradually passed away, new generation of young people has a weak sense of cultural heritage, and most of the rural youth are migrant workers to form the temporary shortage of quilting art heritage. The focus of protection work at the present stage is how to make the young generation interested in quilting art and cultivate young inheritors.

3. The protection team should be strengthened. The professional personnel studying the quilting art is too few and the intangible cultural heritage work is too complicated, so the research work on intangible cultural heritage projects is in difficulty, the protection funding is inadequate and other problems.

In view of these problems, we should start with the following two aspects:

First, develop a series of protection plans

1. First of all, we should intensify publicity, popularize cultural heritage and protect knowledge, and guide people to renew their ideas and raise their awareness of protection.

2. Make a five-year protection plan and carry out the planned and targeted protection year after year to ensure the heritage development of intangible cultural heritage projects.

3. Strengthen the protection of the quilting skills, including the protection of heritage personnel, archives, tools and materials, and organize experts and scholars to carry out academic seminars and so on.

4. Strengthen the local ecological and human environment protection, including the environment, resources, transportation, tourism and other aspects to serve for the inheriting of intangible cultural heritage.

5. Strengthen the protection of the development and utilization of quilting art and intellectual property rights, including strengthening the application for the list of world heritage, trademark registration and other aspects, rationally use and develop the intangible cultural heritage projects with local ethnic characteristics, develop the cultural products with potential market and form the industrialization to achieve effective protection, heritage development and so on.

Second, make specific protective measures

1. Establish the protection agencies and protection leading group, make sure the professionals in charge of the work, determine the leaders as the first responsible person, confirm the cadres responsible for the daily management work of intangible cultural heritage, establish the contact network and set up contact points and heads in the counties, towns, villages and groups.

2. Organize the young people to participate in skills training courses, invite the old artists to teach skills methods, select and train a group of young apprentices nearby according to the distribution of existing artists, adopt the teaching mode of unified management of the township and decentralized family style to carry out training work.

3. Carry out publicity and education work in the township to create a large atmosphere of protection.

4. Organize and hold the quilting art competition activities annually and attract more young people to learn and master this skill through activities to promote the inheritance, development and protection of traditional arts.

5. The local government should focus on the inheritance and protection of the quilting art, as well as the development and utilization in the future cultural work, and make the five-year protection plan.

6. The finance should increase the capital investment, bring the quilting art protection into the beginning of the budget and allocate the special protection funds to ensure the normal development of cultural heritage work.
