Clay pottery – a kind of artistic form with plain shape and deep culture profundity, is widely used in people's daily life. It is one of the symbols of civilization progress with its good ornamental and practical characteristics. Clay potteries can be shaped into water vat, wine (rice, vegetable) jar, tank, marmite, vase, chamber pot, etc..
It was recorded from "Shennong and Anren" that "the reason why people like clay pottery is that it is with abundant minerals good for keeping fit". The steps of making clay pottery:
1. Raw materials: sticky black and red mud;
2. Stirring with some water (cow was used to tread the mud in the past);
3. Placing some mud on the wooden axis plate;
4. Stamping the board by foot while shaping the model of the mud;
5. Drying the model naturally;
6. Glazing it after the model being dried;
7. Firing the model and Clay pottery finished.
The clay pottery is a kind of fully hand-making art without artwork and model which is with significant value of studying modern pottery art and local folk-customs.
