The national work conference on resettlement of people living in reservoir areas was held in Chenzhou on October 21 where Chenzhou experience was promoted. At the meeting, participants from Hunan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Chongqing and Chenzhou exchanged their views.
In the afternoon, participants paid visits to Dongjiang Relocation Museum, Resettlement Orchard in Qingjiang Town, aquaculture breeding farm in Dongjiang Reservoir.
Chenzhou, the "southern gate" of Hunan, is located at the intersection of Nanling Mountains and Luoxiao Mountains and the diversion area of Yangtze River and Pearl River. It is rich in water resources, with 45 large- and medium-sized reservoirs and 187,600 relocated residents. Chenzhou has unswervingly promoted green industrial development to ensure the relocated residents can lead a better life.
In recent years, Chenzhou has promoted the ban on cage culture, fishing, pig breeding, mining and logging, eliminated main industries incompatible with environmental protection, which relocated residents had engaged in. Efforts have been made to vigorously develop the circular ecological industry, promote standardized production and explore integrated development of planting, breeding, ecological forestry, tourism, education and other industries.
On the basis of strict environmental protection, relocated residents around Dongjiang Lake have developed more than 180 happy farmhouses and 102 boutique homestays, with more than 11,000 people directly or indirectly engaging in ecological tourism.
The city has focused on changing development pattern of backward industries in line with local conditions and improving guarantee system for industrial development.
At present, 75% of relocated households in Chenzhou are involved in the local characteristic industries, and some realize an average annual income of more than 100,000 yuan. Their per capita annual income has reached the average of local farmers, their per capita housing area has increased to 57 square meters, and more than 17,600 relocated residents have been lifted out of poverty. Social stability in the reservoir area and resettlement areas have been realized.
