Chenzhou’s total retail sales hit 84.34 bln yuan in first three quarters

2023-11-12

Recently, Chenzhou City released the economic operation situation for the first three quarters of 2023, among which the total retail sales of consumer goods in the city reached 84.34 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%, which showed the consumption vitality of the city grew significantly.

Consumption is one of the “three carriages” that drive economic growth. Since the beginning of this year, driven by the second Hunan Tourism Development Conference,
the city government has taken the recovery and expansion of consumption as a major measure to promote economic growth.

A series of measures and policies have been launched to comprehensively boost market confidence and activate the “main engine” of consumption.

While introducing the “Several Measures for Chenzhou City to Promote Economic Growth” in Hunan Province, it has also actively carried out measures to boost consumption, and increased support for commercial enterprises. It has also raised 15 million yuan to issue electronic consumption vouchers, allocated 4.48 million yuan for the development of the commercial circulation industry, and promoted “home appliances going to the countryside” and “preferential purchase of Hunan-made cars”, to further stimulate commodity consumption.

At the same time, it has carried out over 80 large-scale consumption promotion activities, including 2023 Online New Year’s Shopping Festival and the 11th China (Hunan) International Mineral & Gem Expo.

Driven by these measures, the wholesale, retail, accommodation, and catering retail sales in the city increased by 0.6%, 6.6%, 11.3%, and 15.7% year-on-year from
January to September, respectively.

The online sales of agricultural products in the city reached 2.067 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10%.

The consumption performance of new energy vehicles in Chenzhou is impressive, with retail sales of new energy vehicles above quota reaching 730 million yuan, an increase of 11.8%, and growth rates showing double-digit growth since the beginning of the year.

The booming tourism market has also stimulated people’s desire for consumption. In the first three quarters of this year, the city received over 68 million tourists and generated tourism income of 71.121 billion yuan. The number of tourist reception and tourism revenue both ranked second in the province, and the growth rate ranked first in the province.

These brilliant results are attributed to a batch of cultural tourism projects that were renovated and upgraded for the second Hunan Tourism Development Conference, as well as a package of beneficial policies for the people. With rich tourism formats and high-quality cultural tourism services, the city continuously improved the travel experience of tourists and released consumption potentials.

It especially increased efforts to promote the development of the nighttime economy. It invested 50 million yuan in infrastructure construction of the business district around Beihu Lake. The Business District around Beihu Lake and F&A International Plaza have respectively created a demonstration smart business district and a demonstration smart store in Hunan Province.

It has invested 313 million yuan in the construction of Yuhouli, utilizing waterfront resources to build an open pedestrian street featuring nighttime food, travel, entertainment and accommodation.

During the Mid-autumn Festival and National Day holiday this year, Yuhou Street ranked among the top ten tourist destinations in the province. Beihu Sleepless Consumption Cluster in Beihu District, the Yuhou Street Historical and Cultural Block in Suxian District, and the Rucheng Ethnic Cultural Street on border areas of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces in Rucheng County were selected into the first batch of nighttime consumption gathering demonstration areas in Hunan province.
