Based on the preliminary planning, Guidong Industrial Zone consists of three districts (Shatian Project District, Datang Project District, Pule Project District), covering an area of 563 hectares (about 8445 mu). Shatian Project District is made up of two parts, the North District and the South District, of which the former encompasses chemical industry and smelting industry as its leading industry, while the latter deals with high-tech industries such as electronics industry and biopharmaceutical industry. Pule Project District features in new material industry while processing trade and labor intensive industry are the key industries of Datang Project District.

Recently Guidong Industrial District has been ratified as municipal industrial zone and is awaiting registration at provincial level.
