Chenzhou city commenced a project to comprehensively regulate Xintian Hill Mining Area, Beihu District on the morning of May 30. Liu Liwei, vice governor of Hunan Province declared the launch of the project.
With a total investment of 180 million yuan, the project will be completed in a year. The phase I of the project plans to rectify and shut down six tailings with potential dangers, to build up wind-shield walls for 25 waste-rock yards, to dig rain channels and to restore the ecological harmony in the 6 hectare neighborhood.
Located at Shigaitang Town of Beihu District, Xintian Hill Mining Area mainly produces lead, zinc and tungsten ores.The ecological environment of the mining area has been devastated by the disorderly disposal of waste rocks and tailings due to the improper mine planning. In addition, it's urgent to remove potential safety hazards in some tailings.
