The 2011 Annual Conference of China Flax Association & Jute Industrial Committee was held in Chenzhou on July 31. More than 200 entrepreneurs and experts participated in the meeting, including Xu Jixiang, president of the China Flax Association, and Liu Hui, director of the Administrative Office for Textile Industry of Hunan Province. Chenzhou Deputy Mayor Shou Jianzhong made a general introduction of the city at the meeting.
It is learned from the meeting that Chenzhou Xiangnan Flax Co., Ltd., known as one of the largest producers of jute across China, is devoting itself to building the city into a "National Jute Production Base".
However, since 70% raw materials are imported from Bangladesh, the company has seen increased production cost. In order to lower the cost, endeavors have been made to initiate match-making exchange with relevant experts from Hunan and other provinces and invite them to the city for field investigations. These moves are aimed at giving a feasibility analysis on growing jute in the city, striving to establish "National Jute Production Base" and forming an industrial chain from raw materials to flax processing and then to production marketing.
