Chenzhou Embraces Car-free Day

On the morning of Sept. 21, the first Car-free Day of Chenzhou City themed with "Green Transport & Future of Urban Life" was launched at the Wuling Square.
   
Chen Shezhao, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chenzhou Municipal Committee, declared the start of the campaign. He called for all the citizens to actively participate in the campaign and reduce car uses to the largest extent, so as to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce air pollution and improve urban environment.
   
Activities like "Ten-thousand Signature Drive" have been launched and written proposals handed out.

Nearly 300 cycling lovers promoted the campaign with a 12-km-long bicycle tour around the city. Zhao Yongqiang, chairman of the Chenzhou Cycling Association, remarked that, while bringing people close to the nature and beautiful sceneries, green travel changes urban transportation mode, reduces emissions, improves urban environment and propels social harmony.
