The renovation of the Cheng Zikai School, a valuable cultural unit under the provincial-level protection, was launched in Xianghua Township, Zixing City on September 23 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution.

General Cheng Zikai is a native of Shigu Village, Xianghua Township. He joined hands with Huang Xiang and Song Jiaoren in the establishment of the Revolutionary Comrade Alliance, attended the Tong Meng Hui (the Chinese Revolutionary League), participated in and commanded the 1911 Revolution. He died in a struggle at the resistance against Japanese invasion in 1945.

Built in 1905, the school has boasted a history of over 100 years. It covers a floor area of 1,000 square meters and is designed and invested by General Cheng. It has both Chinese and Japanese styles, with glazed tiles, and western arches.

The all-round renovation aims to protect this cultural heritage. With a total investment of over four million yuan, the project is expected to be completed by 2012. It is a major decision for the strategy of "Culture enriching Zixing".
