Village Ruins from Neolithic Age Discovered in Guiyan

Qianjiaping Village Ruins dated from the Neolithic Age was unearthed at Sandu Village, Yinhe Township,Guiyang County, Chenzhou City. Through observation and research of archaeologists from the Hunan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology for more than a week, the ruins was identified as the first prehistoric (about 1.7 million years ago-21st century BC) human village site discovered in southern Hunan. 

 

Yin Jianshun, a researcher of the institute said," The first three soil layers expose traces of the Modern Times, the Ming and Qing dynasties(1368-1912) and the Neolithic Age of 4,000 -5,000 years ago". He predicted that the next 2-3 layers may give the traces dated back to 6,000 years.

According to Tang Tao, chief of the Laws and Regulation Division of Chenzhou Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage,, more than 10 archaeologists from Changsha, Huaihua, Hengyang and Chenzhou started the excavation of this village site on Nov.26. About 100 cultural relics are dug up including stone swords stone axes, stone adzes and debrises of white pottery.
