Currently, the mayor’s hotline of Chenzhou city (12345) got a call from Mr. Xiong that the children’s reading room of Chenzhou City’s Library is too small to provide enough seats for the children every weekend. He required to expand the children’s reading room to grant all children with better reading condition.

It was introduced by Chenzhou City’s Library that the children’s reading room of the library is about 300 square meters big which is capable to cover 150 children to read in the room. But currently, there are just 80seats set there. The children’s reading room is only opened to public during the weekends and public holidays. Those seats are quite limited to the children. Every weekend, about two times readers of ordinary period come to the library that often no vacancies available for more readers. In order to get a seat, some children waited outside the library before its opening time. Some readers who did not get the seat can only stand on the lobby to read books, some of whom even seated on the floor.

“We are so sorry for the children, but it is not capable for us to expand more spaces to them under current situation.” Li Peng- Chief Librarian of Chenzhou City’s Library expressed his sincere sorry for all the children. As introduced by Li, currently, not only children’s reading room, but other reading rooms for adults and stack rooms of the library are too small. Some reading activities can only be handled outdoor. But in 2015, the situation would be improved. According the planning figured out by Chenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Chenzhou Government, “four centers and one hall” for the cultural and art centers of Chenzhou city would be moved to new places. Till then, the library would be capable to expand to be two times of current areas, which would be greatly helped to improve the reading condition.

“Stack rooms, lecture hall, reading tower, ordinary reading room, and e-reading room are expected to be set in the library.” Li also expressed his expectation to expand the library sooner and provide the citizens and children with a leaven of reading. It was learned that the“four centers and one hall”project was handled out well in Chenzhou city under specified time schedule.
