Half Quilt, a revolution-themed national opera, is to be staged at Meixi Lake International Culture and Art Center in Changsha on July 9 after over one year’s elaborate preparation. It has been rated as one of the 7 key operas in the project of “Chinese national opera inheritance” and one of the 100 excellent stage art works in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
Half Quilt is based on the story of the Red Army with the same name in Shazhou Village, Chenzhou City. The opera tells an impression from people that “What is a Communist Party member like? He is the man who will cut half of the quilt for the people even if he has only one”and reveal the truth that “Standing together through thick and thin, connecting blood and sharing destiny with the people is the fundamental guarantee for the victory of the Long March by the Communist Party of China and the Red Army, and for us to overcome all difficulties.
Since the script was finished in July 2019, Changsha has organized script seminars and field visits to Shazhou Village, Rucheng County for many times. Finally, the opera started the formal rehearsal in May this year with a revised script and careful arrangement. “I believe our audience will be touched by the red army soldiers who had sacrificed themselves for the Chinese revolution and people’s happiness, and the spirit of the old generation revolutionists.” said Huang Dingshan, chief director of Half Quilt.
There will be a special performance of Half Quilt for Party history education at the grand theater of the Meixi Lake International Culture and Art Center on July 10. It will have a tour at Guangzhou Opera House on July 14 and 15, as one of the cultural week activities between Changsha and Guangzhou. The opera will also be staged in Beijing as the excellent stage art works in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and participate in the 7th Hunan Art Festival on behalf of Changsha.
