On July 10, golden waves of rice were shining under the blazing sun in Changchong Village, Suxian District, Chenzhou City. Amidst the roar of harvesters, the rice fields were harvested for the first time since the grasslands were restored to farmland.
In 2020, Suxian District promoted the return of grassland to farmland in order to protect basic farmland and stabilize food production. More than 24,000 mu (1,600 hectares) of turf have all been removed, most of which are located in Feitianshan Town.
In 2021, Suxian District has formulated a grain production program, which specifies that grain farmers who purchase rice seeds can enjoy a subsidy of 50% of the purchase cost, and farmers who plant early rice of 30 mu (2 hectares) or more can enjoy a subsidy of 200 yuan (30.90 U.S. dollars) per mu. For those who have transferred more than 50 mu (3.33 hectares) of land within Feitianshan Town to grow grain, they can receive an additional subsidy of 100 yuan (15.45 U.S. dollars) per mu.
At present, the early rice in the rice fields returned from the grassland is ripe for harvesting, bringing a great increase in grain to Suxian District.
