Liuhuawan Village was once one of the main production areas of industrial coal in Hunan Province. After the resources were depleted, the development of the village came to a standstill. In order to break this bottleneck, the village encouraged villagers to vigorously develop the green lotus industry by rewarding 200 yuan for planting one mu of lotus flowers. 53-year-old Cao Shouquan, who used to be engaged in the coal mining business, was the first to set up a farmhouse in the village.

Thanks to the green industry, the rural tourism of Liuhuawan Village has soon prospered. The village receives more than 300,000 visitors each year, with an annual average collective income of 110,000 yuan (17,011.27 US dollars) and a per capita income of more than 20,000 yuan (3,092.96 US dollars) for villagers.
