Recently, during a pepper picking activity in Litian Town, Yizhang County, over 80 village heads, farmers and businessmen gathered together to discuss the development of Sichuan pepper industry.

In recent years, Litian Town has focused on efforts to consolidate the achievement made in poverty alleviation, taken various measures to develop the collective forestry and agricultural economy, and revitalized the once idle land resources to expand channels for increasing villagers’ income, seeking to stimulate more vitality out of agriculture in different villages.

It has established characteristic high-end fruit and vegetable bases by integrating itself into the vegetable basket project of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cultivating agricultural and forestry brands, and promoting the construction of “one village, one product”.

Now with the local resources and the public’s efforts, a model of cooperative + base + farmers has been adopted to develop Jiuyeqing pepper and Litian pepper in Litian Town.

Currently, over 300 mu (about 20 hectares) of Jiuyeqing pepper and 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares) of Litian pepper are planted in the town. With 3 years of efforts, the production of pepper per mu can reach 500 kg. A village has signed the purchasing deal with a company from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The pepper industry in Litian Town has input a total of over 400,000 yuan annually for employment and land circulation, which has provided 128 households or 498 people with stable income and work.

In addition, a pepper processing factory has been set up with support funds, which can bring another 500,000 yuan annually for the village. Now, the factory hires local workers and helps them increase the income. It is not only a booster for the local industrial development but also an impetus for the rural revitalization.
