Recently, the activity of upcycling and student fashion show was carried out by the “Red Gene” Volunteer Group from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Hunan Normal University in the Kuzhi Yucai School of Guiyang County, Chenzhou City.
Liu Qiaoling, one of the volunteers from the College of Engineering and Design, prepared well for it. By searching relevant materials, she downloaded a short video “Turning Waste into Treasure”. Through repeated trial lectures, she also arranged interaction and mutual assistance.
Through the selection and training of child models for clothing display, she tried to make the best effect of the final stage.
By collecting all kinds of waste materials in the school, the fashion show fully reflected the concept of green environmental protection.
“Children living in rural areas have less access to information and a limited sense of fashion, which is essential for inspiring innovative thinking.” Liu Qiaoling hoped to improve children’s creative and aesthetic abilities through the activity, and described her own understanding of fashion and ideas on innovation.
To everyone’s surprise, the children and volunteers designed and made clothes with bold innovation and unique aesthetics by the use of old military quilt, plastic bags, red banners, old umbrellas and other materials.
In the final catwalk stage, the children walked with great confidence to the lively rhythm of the music. The volunteers also hoped the activity would give the children a stage to find their own shining points and have the ability to discover beauty.
