Huaicun Village, located in Zhaiqian Town of Guidong County, is a demonstration town of beautiful countryside in Hunan Province. It is 17 kilometers away to the county and close to many tourist attractions. It is also surrounded by mountains and waters, with the provincial highway S351 passing through. Luo opened the Runhe Farm in the village, with a restaurant, an ecological orchard and a high-quality rice base.

 

“I transferred over 300 mu (about 20 hectares) of farmland from the local villagers to plant rice, yellow peach, blueberry and kiwi.” Luo told the reporter. The farm and homestay inns in the village can help villagers promote their local agricultural products.

 

 

Visitors can experience the farm work, such as picking vegetables and fruits and catching mudfish. They can not only make local dishes, but also experience the traditional farming culture, dreaming about the idyllic life.

 

In addition, Luo used his contacts accumulated when selling tourism products and opened a special tourism line of a 5 days 4 nights trip from Changsha or Hengyang to Huaicun Village, which can attract more than 5,000 visitors per year.

 

The farm has hired 20 local villagers for reception, restaurant service and farming work. It even has to employ more than 70 workers in peak seasons. The annual payment of villagers’ wages is up to 700,000 - 800,000 yuan.

 

 

Luo said that the farm is just a part of the village collective economy. There are 22 homestay inns and different orchards which form a great community. All of 1,580 villagers should make joint efforts for the development by planting fruits and rice or running boutique inns.  

 

On July 16, a bonfire party was held in Huaicunli agriculture and tourism base and on July 18, the yellow peach orchard of the farm was opened.

 

 

In the next two years, over 10 more homestay inns will be opened in the village.
