Faced with the continuous scorching heat, the monk fruit planting base in Dayuan Village, Huangsha Town, Yizhang County has invested 300,000 yuan to add sprinkler irrigation, drip irrigation and other pipeline irrigation systems in the base.
Efforts have been made to “quench thirst” for more than 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares) of monk fruit, so as to ensure the stable yield and the increase of fruit farmers’ income.
“It is now the expanding period of the young monk fruit with large water demand. If there is a lack of water, the fruit will be deformed and the yield will be affected,” said Li Siqing, the general manager of Chenzhiyuan Agriculture.
“Since May, a new reservoir, water pumps and diversion water mains have been built and installed in the base. Now the drip tapes and the micronozzle have been installed, forming a complete pipeline irrigation system.”
“It used to take 30 laborers to carry water and two days to water all the trees. Now it only takes two people to control the pipe switch and add fertilizer. The whole process of irrigation can be done in five hours, with the efficiency greatly improved,” Li Siqing said happily. “Pipeline irrigation can also achieve accurate management of water and fertilizer, so as to improve the quality and the yield of the monk fruit.”
Monk fruit enjoys the reputation of “fairy fruit”, with high nutritional value.
In October last year, in order to promote the industrial development of Dayuan Village, the Municipal Party Committee’s rural revitalization work ream in Dayuan Village adopted the operation mode of “branch + cooperative + farmers” in combination with the climate, land, labor force and capital investment of Dayuan Village. The total planting area of monk fruit reaches more than 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares). The annual output value is expected to achieve more than 600,000 yuan, which can generate 130,000 yuan for the village collective economy, and help more than 50 rural surplus laborers find jobs and increase income at their doorstep.
