49-year-old He Guojun serves as the party secretary of Kuandong Village, Yangtianhu Yao Ethnic Town. He was keenly aware of the opportunity in the Yangtian Lake Grassland’s tourism boom with years of experience in business and led villagers to transform farmhouses into homestay inns.
Kuandong Village is located in the mountainous area of southwestern Beihu District at an altitude of 900 meters to 1,300 meters. It is a 10-minute drive from Yangtian Lake Grassland.
The popularity of Yangtian Lake Grassland is as high as the temperatures in August, and the “Home of Kuandong” homestay inn just opened in July has caught this opportunity, where there is no vacancy every day.
Developing homestay inns in Kuandong Village can provide accommodation for tourists and also help villagers increase income.
The village invested 500,000 yuan to convert the old unused office building into the "Home of Kuandong" as a way to develop village collective economy, and guided eight villagers to run homestay business in their houses.
The “Home of Kuandong” had been handed over to and run by a professional company after public bidding, with a fixed annual income of 40,000 yuan for the village collective economy.
As the Yangtian Lake Grassland was the filming spot of a hit TV show “The Chinese Restaurant Season Ⅵ”, Kuandong Village got another chance to promote its homestay inns when the show was broadcast on August 12.
He Jicai has two buildings with 18 guest rooms. His homestay inn is favored by tourists for its newly-built large terrace where you can enjoy the scenery of mountains and water.
“The daily turnover is about 9,000 yuan during this summer vacation.” He Jicai said that the surging number of visitors makes him more confident about the future and he plans to improve entertainment and supporting facilities.
