Recently, the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championship opened in Manama, Bahrain. In the women’s 49 kg event, Wang Jiali won the championship with 81 kg snatch, 105 kg clean and jerk, and a total result of 186 kg. It was the first gold medal for China’s weightlifting team at this Asian Weightlifting Championships.
Wang Jiali was born in Guiyang County, Chenzhou City in 2002. This Asian Championship is the first time for her to participate in an international competition.
In the snatch competition, Wang Jiali won the snatch gold medal with a result of 81 kg, 1 kg ahead of second place. In the clean and jerk competition, Wang Jiali showed her absolute strength. The 100 kg, 103 kg and 105 kg trials were all successful, with a total result of 186 kg. She won all three gold medals.
At present, the world records of women’s 49 kg snatch and of total results are 96 kg and 213 kg created by the Olympic champion Hou Zhihui, a native of Guiyang, at the 2021 Tashkent Asian Weightlifting Championship. The world record of clean and jerk is 119 kg set by India’s Mirabai at the 2021 Tashkent Asian Weightlifting Championship.
Guiyang, known as the “hometown of champions”, is one of the first batch of sports advanced counties in China and one of the advanced units in the national sports field survey. It has cultivated many world champions and Olympic champions like Li Ping, Yi Siling, Zhang Wangli and Hou Zhihui.
At present, more than 60 athletes are being trained in the national team, Hunan provincial team and municipal bases, contributing to the development of sports of China and Hunan Province.
