Mantang Village takes off 'poverty hat'

2022-10-29

This year, Mantang Village in Jiahe County ushered in the first harvest season. Nearly 30,000 catties of tobacco were sold out, contributing to the village collective income.

The village cadres have put various policies pertaining to rural revitalization into practice, transferring 260 mu (about 17.33 hectares) of arable land to plant tobacco, and adopting the "tobacco and rice rotation" model to make full use of land resources.

Previously, Mantang Village had no collective industry, no collective income. It had high incidence of poverty, with low-income farmers and a large proportion of the masses without houses.

Some years ago, there were still a few villagers living in dilapidated and dangerous houses in Mantang Village. The foremost task at that time was to solve the lack of housing. It carried out stringent measures to cope with the problems in the implementation of relocation of impoverished residents and renovation of dilapidated houses to ensure that every cent of the funds was spent on poor households.

The villagers are eager to see the village industry flourish. Jiahe County fully promoted the implementation of the county's 112 special poverty alleviation projects in detail. A large number of poverty alleviation projects such as photovoltaic power station and breeding cooperative were launched one by one. The once poor village made a gorgeous turnaround and successfully took off the "poverty hat" it had worn for many years.

Since 2020, the village has vigorously developed selenium-rich fruit industry and planted red grapefruit on the mountain forests of 460 mu (about 30.66 hectares). Next, it plans to take the red grapefruit industry as the basis to drive the development of navel orange industry and build a large industrial park, striding toward a better future.
