Huang, 44 years old, has obtained the new type of professional farmer certificate. Since 2015, he has taken the lead in raising more than 4 million yuan and transferring over 300 mu (20 hectares) of barren mountain and waste land. Huang has successively established Zixing Yaoshang Caiwen Family Farm and Zixing Daofeng Modern Agricultural Machinery Specialized Cooperative, providing jobs for more than 80 villagers, with an annual per capita income increasing by over 10,000 yuan.

In February last year, Huang began fish farming using high technology. He invested more than 40,000 yuan to establish a smart fish farming system, and used mobile phone apps to control the water temperature and dissolved oxygen in the fish pond. The growth of more than 200,000 fish could be known by touching the screen.

“Learning from books and peers, planting and breeding scientifically are the right ways to get rich.” Huang said that the intermediate title is a new starting point and he will use his experience to help neighbors.

Thanks to Huang’s help and guidance, a 65-year-old impoverished man in Dawangzhai Village got a job for rice pest control and fertilizer management at Yaoshang Family Farm, with an average monthly salary of 2,000 yuan.

In September this year, in order to strengthen the development of the technical talent team for rural revitalization, the first seminar of technical talents for rural revitalization in Hunan Province was held in Hunan Open University. The first batch of 23 farmers, including Huang, were awarded the intermediate title of rural revitalization agronomists in Hunan Province.

The evaluation of farmers’ professional titles will be normalized. Rural revitalization agronomists will enjoy preferential policies in innovation, entrepreneurship, discount loans and skills training.

Farmers will be gradually recognized by the people as a professional concept. Rural revitalization requires more new professional farmers who are literate, skilled and good at management.
