Workers were busy at the headquarters site of the Central Red Army breaking through the third blockade in the Long March at Baishidu Village, Yizhang County, Chenzhou.
At present, the construction of the showroom has been completed, and the whole project is expected to be completed by the end of this year and open to the public next year.
In October 1934, the Central Red Army started the arduous Long March from Ruijin, Jiangxi Province and other places. On November 10 of that year, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Bocheng and other leaders stationed in Yizhang, commanded the army to capture Baishidu, the important defense town of the Kuomintang along Guangzhou-Wuhan Railway, established the headquarters and activity center of the Central Red Army’s Long March breaking through the third blockade, and carried out extensive Party building and political work.
Now, the headquarters site is in good condition in Qingbai Hall of Kuang’s Ancestral Temple at Baishidu Village, which has been listed as the eighth batch of key cultural relics under national protection.
The ancestral temple is also surrounded by the former residence sites of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and Liu Bocheng, as well as key cultural relics under provincial-level protection like the Red Army Bank Exchange, the site of Dukou Battle, Baisha River, and the former health site for the wounded soldiers.
Since the beginning of this year, the local government of Yizhang County started the quality improvement and reconstruction of the headquarters site with a total investment of 50 million yuan.
