Guiyang County has made great efforts to build high-quality farmland to ensure food security and increase farmers’ income.
In the early winter, machines were roaring in the farmland of Wumei Village, Guiyang County, Chenzhou City. More than 1,800 mu (120 hectares) of high-quality farmland was under construction.
The plots of farmland at Wumei Village used to be small and uneven. It was inconvenient for agricultural machines to work in the fields. Due to poor water conservancy conditions and long-term drought, it was hard for the cultivated land to be transferred.
At the end of October this year, the construction of well-facilitated farmland in the village officially kicked off, aiming at building an agricultural production system of level land and complete facilities. Over 3,500 mu (233.33 hectares) of soil has been improved, and more than 1,800 mu (120 hectares) of grain fields have been turned into high-quality farmland.
In 2022, 100,000 mu (about 6,666.67 hectares) of farmland in 21 towns (sub-districts) and 120 villages was planned to be upgraded. After the project is completed and put into operation, the annual grain production output will increase by 10.294 million kg, the total output value of planting industry will rise by 26.1459 million yuan, and the total income of farmers will grow by 46.1459 million yuan.
