The evaluation was initiated by Beijing Forestry University in 2020, for which the China Green City Research Institute was established to comprehensively evaluate the quality and quantity of annual forest resources and the functions of forest ecosystems, the development of forestry industry, regional economic and social development, and green forestry governance in prefecture-level cities nationwide. 

 

 

 

In this evaluation, there are 5 two-level indicators and 46 3-level indicators, which can ensure the comprehensiveness of the evaluation indicator system. The basic data of 297 prefecture-level cities across the country have been collected through government statistical yearbooks, statistical bulletins, various special bulletins and public data on the governments’ official websites. After a series of evaluation, 20 cities stood out.
