Two areas in Hunan listed among internationally important wetlands

February 2, 2023 is the 27th World Wetlands Day. China added 18 wetlands of international importance, including the Chongling Lake International Wetland and the Maoli Lake International Wetland in Hunan Province. So far, China has 82 internationally important wetlands with a total area of 7.647 million hectares, ranking fourth in the world.

 

The theme of World Wetlands Day this year is “Wetland Restoration”, aiming at calling on the whole society to participate and take measures to restore degraded wetlands.

Guiyang Chongling National Wetland Park is located in Guiyang County, Chenzhou City. It is a river-reservoir complex type wetland with a total area of 3,220 hectares, 2,478.7 hectares of which is wetland. 
 
There are permanent rivers, floodplain wetlands, reservoirs and other wetland types in the park with a unique habitat and beautiful environment, which breeds rich natural resources.

In order to promote the ecological environment construction of “one lake and four rivers”, namely the Dongting Lake, the Xiangjiang River, the Zishui River, the Yuanjiang River and the Lishui River, this year Hunan will focus on the implementation of such projects as the South Dongting Lake Internationally Important Wetland Protection and Restoration, the Dongting Lake Migratory Bird Habitat Restoration Pilot as well as Chenzhou Mangshan Langpan Lake and Hengnan Jiangkou Bird Isle Nationally Important Wetland Protection and Restoration.
