Zhao Chunmei, deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress and Party secretary of Erfeng Village, said, “We should seize this opportunity to develop rural tourism.”

 

Located on the hillside of the Huilong Mountain in Zixing City, Erfeng Village is recognized as a characteristic village inhabited by an ethnic group in China integrating the Yao customs, ecological tourism and cultural landscape.

 

When Zhao Chunmei was a child, she saw the then old village secretary led villagers to open a road with hoes in the snowy days. At that time, she didn’t understand why they did such hard work.

 

 

Later, as a road of more than ten kilometers was dug out on the cliff, the village had more communication with the outside world and began to develop. She realized the significance of digging the road in that year.

 

In 2020, Zhao Chunmei, who worked in Shenzhen after graduating from university, decided to return home and start a business. In 2021, she was appointed as the Party secretary and committee director of Erfeng Village.

 

To develop the tourism industry in Erfeng Village, Zhao Chunmei led the village cadres to go out for investigation and study. After returning, they built a “Party branch homestay inn” with ethnic cultural characteristics, and established a homestay consortium.

 

Erfeng Village boasts rich bamboo resources and a variety of agricultural and sideline products which were not sold at a good price because they were unknown to people. Zhao Chunmei realized the importance of brands and proposed to create the agricultural product trademark “Guyue Huilong” to drive the industrial development through brand effect.

 

Today, Erfeng Village has developed rural tourism integrating culture and agriculture, and strengthened three industries including bamboo, homestay as well as study tour.

 

“After returning from Beijing, I will organize the Yao women in our village to promote such tourism products as ‘Guyue Huilong’ pure water, tea, tea oil, ecological rice, smoked bacon and dried bamboo shoots through social media platforms such as Douyin. I am very confident that our village will become more beautiful and the industry will develop better. Moreover, villagers’ life will get happier,” said Zhao Chunmei.
