Waste agricultural film recycling for green development

2023-03-19

“Today, a total of 4 tons of waste agricultural film have been purchased and will be sent to a third-party company for recycling. In this way, not only the waste can be disposed, but also farmers can get benefits,” said a staff of the local agriculture and rural affairs bureau of Zixing City in a pepper base of Daping Village, Zixing City.

Using plastic film mulching can significantly improve crop yields when cultivating fruits and vegetables, but the plastic film left in the field will cause soil and environment pollution.

The harm caused by the left plastic film exceeds factors such as fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. So, improving the recycling rate of agricultural film and strengthening the resource utilization of waste agricultural film have become the key points for sustainable agricultural development.

To this end, Zixing City actively carries out the recycling and utilization of agricultural waste, focuses on building a long-term mechanism for the pollution control of waste agricultural film, and fully pays attention to key tasks such as the recycling and utilization of waste agricultural film, and comprehensive utilization of straw, in a bid to promote the green development of agriculture.

Zixing City established a municipal agricultural film waste recycling center with a total investment of 480,000 yuan, set up collection points for waste agricultural film in 13 townships, built 2 provincial monitoring units for agricultural film residue, signed agreements with third-party companies for the incineration and disposal of waste agricultural film.

It also actively promotes the use of thickened high-strength plastic film and fully biodegradable plastic film. The efforts has made a basically complete network system of waste agricultural film involving gathering, recycling and utilization.

Various measures have been taken to publicize the hazards of waste and used mulch film residues and the importance of controlling residual mulch film pollution to ensure agricultural production, and guide farmers to scientifically handle waste and used mulch film.
