The opening ceremony of Anren Market Day, a national intangible cultural heritage item, was held in Paddy Field Park on the morning of March 21.
More than 100,000 people around the country, including medicinal herb farmers, purchasers, pharmaceutical companies, and cultural tourism enterprises gathered to discuss the integrated development of traditional Chinese medicine and cultural tourism.
At the opening ceremony, Anren County was awarded the honorary titles of a demonstration base for rural cultural industrial innovation, a planting demonstration base for characteristic agricultural products, and a shooting base for rural revitalization. A research center for spring equinox culture was jointly built by Beijing Folklore Museum and Anren County.
Hu Chunfu, the chief expert in the cultural construction of the Chinese Medicine Hospital of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was engaged as a consult for the development of TCM industry in Anren County and will provide intellectual support for the development of the TCM industry.
Sister Xiaoyi, a well-known traditional culture communicator in China and Liu Yizhen, a Anren-born singer, were appointed as the cultural tourism ambassadors of Anren County.
Anren Market Day is a folk activity that has been formed spontaneously to commemorate the great achievements of Emperor Yan Shennong, with a history of over 1,000 years. It’s known as the “living fossil” of Chinese traditional folk festivals, with significant historical, folklore, and medical values.
On November 30, 2016, Anren Market Day, as an important part of Chinese 24 solar terms, was on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
Anren County has a Shennong Temple dedicated to worshipping the Emperor Yan, a tasting new festival and rice sculpture to thanking the Emperor Yan for teaching people to grow grain, as well as a market day to commemorating the establishment of market day.
In recent years, Anren County has made utmost efforts to build a capital of Shennong medicine, promote the integrated development of TCM and cultural tourism, make Anren’s cultural tourism more famous, and constantly improve its popularity and influence.
More than 10 activities will be held during the Anren Market Day, including the 12th Cole Flowers Festival, Shennong sacrificial activities, Chinese herbal medicine trading and commodity exhibitions, which will continue until March 31.
