The ecological fish breeding base is located Cuijiang Yao Village of Guiyang County, Chenzhou City. It lies at the foot of a mountain and beside a river. The continuous fish ponds and the beautiful scenery complement each other. The clear mountain spring water flows into the ponds, and groups of sturgeons swim in the ponds to look for food or jump out of the water to breathe.
Cuijiang Yao Village has many mountains and few lands, with Yao and Han people living together. The natural villages are scattered on both banks of Cuijiang River and in the mountains and ravines around the Taoyuan Reservoir.
In recent years, the village has developed an ecological fish farming industry based on local conditions, greatly helping advance industrial revitalization and increase local villagers’ income.
Cuijiang Yao Village is situated at an average altitude of over 400 meters. However, the village lies at the downstream of Taoyuan Reservoir, and it has unique advantages in water resources, as the spring water flowing through the village not only has good water quality, but also keeps cold and sweet all year round.
“The water quality of Taoyuan Reservoir is good, and the sturgeon meat is delicious and compact. It can reach 15 to 20 kg after being raised for four to five years,” said Zhuang Jiajun, head of Mindu Agricultural development Company.
In 2021, relying on the unique ecological advantages of Cuijiang Yao Village, the company introduced fish fry from Fujian Province and built an aquaculture pond to develop ecological fish breeding industry. Villagers’ income were increased through land transfer, share dividends and employment.
The sturgeon and perch cultured at Cuijiang Yao Village with tender meat and fresh taste are deeply favored by merchants. Now, the base raises about 220,000 sturgeons and perches, which are sold well in domestic and foreign markets.
About 250,000 kg of ecological fish are sold annually, with an annual output value of more than 5 million yuan, helping more than 10 households increase income. The collective economic income of the village has increased by 60,000 yuan annually.
In recent years, Liufeng Town has focused on developing and strengthening the village collective economy to promote rural revitalization, made the best of the good water resources to vigorously develop ecological aquaculture, creating a new path for rural revitalization and helping increase villagers’ income.
