Spodumene is one of the main lithium-bearing minerals. It is a pegmatite mineral that often occurs with crystal, tourmaline, and beryl. Its associated minerals include quartz, albite, and microcline. The lithium chemical raw materials can be applied in a wide range of industries, such as lithium chemicals, glass, and ceramics.

 

As this year’s theme is “Magical Mineral Crystal, An Appointment with Lithium”, the main exhibition stand features seven sizable cabinets displaying spodumene exhibits of various sizes and styles from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Brazil, and other countries, while the spodumene exhibits in the small display cabinets come from Hunan Provincial Museum of Geology.

 

 

In particular, there is a striking purple spodumene specimen that takes on a beautiful pink and purple hue under the light. The manganese ions present in the spodumene contribute to its beautiful purple coloration. It also emits a diamond-like phosphorescence that can be clearly observed when moved from bright sunlight to a dark indoor environment. In addition, it exhibits pleochroism, which means it displays different colors when viewed from different angles, making it a popular choice in the jewelry industry.
