“This place used to be barren and sometimes defaced with random stickers and graffiti, making it quite unattractive. But now, things have changed for the better! After the village underwent a unified repainting, professional artists were engaged to create captivating artworks. Every day, as I pass through the village entrance, I can’t help but take a few more glances,” joyfully exclaimed a villager from Tuqiao Village in Yangmeishan Town of Yizhang County.
Huang Huikun, an official of Yangmeishan Town, shared that the town has prioritized enhancing the rural landscape, aligning with the requirements of the Hunan Tourism Development Conference and rural revitalization efforts. Through simple artistic forms, the town has portrayed various village stories, family traditions, filial piety culture, Red culture, and agricultural practices on the walls. This not only beautifies the environment but also serves as a means of publicity and guidance, receiving widespread acclaim from the villagers.
“The development of beautiful countryside has brought us numerous benefits. With my paintbrush, I aim to acquaint more people with the touching and inspiring stories of Yizhang County,” said Zhang Xinyuan, a village painter.
Along the roadside leading to Longtang Village in Tiantang Town, vibrant wall paintings depicting villagers’ labor and their joy of harvests can be found in abundance. These distinctive murals adorn the countryside with their colorful and eye-catching designs, capturing the attention of passersby and instantly brightening up this once-inconspicuous village.
The themed wall paintings, such as “Navel Oranges” in Changcun Township, “New Rural Living Scenes” in Liyuan Town, and “Great Love in Mangshan Mountain” in Yiliu Town, are not only visually appealing but also grounded in reality, making the beautiful countryside transform into an ecologically livable home.
Since the beginning of this year, Yizhang County has leveraged the opportunity of hosting the second Hunan Tourism Development Conference to earnestly improve the aesthetics of urban and rural areas. It has implemented a three-level linkage plan for environmental enhancement along the observation route of Yizhang County during the second Hunan Tourism Development Conference. County-level officials, town-level officials, and village-level officials have been appointed as leaders responsible for their respective segments. With their assigned responsibilities, they have carried out the “demolition, renovation and cleaning” campaign and “six transformations” to enhance the quality of urban and rural roads.
By the end of May, a number of small vegetable gardens, flower gardens, orchards and parks had been completed, covering a total of 241,000 square meters in 1,067 locations. The diverse wall paintings in different villages have increasingly captivated villagers with their vivid and easily understandable content. Currently, the accumulated area of wall paintings in Yizhang County has exceeded 20,000 square meters, attracting nearly 90,000 visitors.
Clean roads, tidy villages, livable homes, and cheerful faces—these elements paint a new and captivating picture of the beautiful countryside of Yizhang County. In the next phase, Yizhang County will continue implementing tailored greening and beautification initiatives. It aspires to showcase the beauty of nature and culture in full splendor, ensuring the scenery becomes even more appealing and creating a better quality of life for the locals.
