Since the beginning of summer, the Hunan Opera Protection and Inheritance Center of Guiyang County has given performances in rural areas, bringing cultural delights to the local community and allowing them to experience the unique charm of Hunan Opera right at their doorstep.

 

Xie Nengjiao, a national second grade actor and director of the center, explained, “Zhao Zilong takes Guiyang County with Strategy” is based on the plot from Chapter 52 of “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” and “Zhao Yun’s Biography” in “Records of the Three Kingdoms.” This story has been adapted into both a stage play and an opera film. Over 300 performances have been staged since its creation. It has become a classic play of our troupe.”

 

Xu Zixi, an audience, said, “The actors’ performances are so vivid that he as if saw the real Zhao Zilong stand in front of him.”

 

Guiyang is an ancient county with profound cultural heritage, and Guiyang Hunan Opera has been listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage item. Since 2014, Guiyang County has organized 2,000 activities themed “a hundred stages and a thousand performances”. Artistic volunteers have presented over 120 performances in rural areas each year, benefiting more than 200,000 people.

 

 

In recent years, Guiyang County has delved into the local opera culture, and created operas based on local history, customs, and folklore, in a bid to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the people, bring opera into ordinary people’s life and help the inheritance and development of Hunan Opera.

 

“It is our pride to get everyone to know Guiyang and fall in love with it in this way. We will continue to innovate and polish Guiyang’s cultural card of a thousand-year-old county,” Xie Nengjiao stated.
