Red culture and beautiful scenery constitute a magnificent picture in the city with an area of 19,400 square kilometers.

 

 

Taking advantage of the Second Hunan Tourism Development Conference, Chenzhou has implemented cultural and tourism projects and planned tourism routes to create eight cultural and tourism brands, including Red Classic, Mangshan Mountain, Capital of Hot Spring, Danxia Landscape, Oriental Water City, Summer and Wellness Resort, Historical Heritage, and Shining Night sky.

Chenzhou is the birthplace of the Xiangnan Uprising, the First Military Regulations, and the story of "Half a Quilt". All 11 counties and cities in the city belong to revolutionary old areas, which has become the thickest background of Chenzhou.

 

There appeared revolutionary pioneers such as Deng Zhongxia, as well as nine founding generals such as Huang Kecheng and Xiao Ke. 

 

The Chinese women’s volleyball team started their journey from here and achieved five consecutive championships.

 

Chenzhou is also the location of the first uranium mine.

 

Chenzhou has continued to explore Red resources and integrate the touching Red stories and revolutionary deeds, such as “Half a Quilt” and “Red Army Stayed Overnight at Lishan”.

 

It has released the Red tourism route, compiled the “Chenzhou Red Tourism Development Plan (2020-2030)”, and proposed Red tourism development paths such as “red plus industry”, “red plus public facilities”, and “red plus rural areas”.

 

Research articles like the “History of Revolutionary Struggle in Chenxian County” have been compiled and a 711 uranium mine exhibition hall has been built in Suxian District to dig deep into the Red history.

 

Red bases such as the former sites of the Xiangnan Uprising and of the CCP Jiahe South District Branch (Xiao Ke Former Residence) have been developed in Jiahe County to create a Red tourism and cultural brand.

 

Over 220 revolutionary-themed films, micro party classes, short videos, and micro films have been produced in Rucheng County.

 

 

Chenzhou, with a forest coverage rate of 68.1%, is an important ecological barrier in the southern China. It has a complete range of tourism resources such as mountains, water, forests, fields, springs, lakes, grasslands, caves, and mines, with over 110 scenic areas. It is a forest city and the capital of hot springs in China. 

 

Here, tourists can not only appreciate the magnificent beauty of Mangshan Mountain, the miraculous Danxia landform, and enchanting Dongjiang Lake, but also ride horses in Yangtian Lake Grassland and bathe in the hot spring, the highest temperature of  which can reach 98 ℃.

 

In addition, tourists can watch the sunset and sunrise in Huilong Mountain, Wugai Mountain, and Wanyang Mountain.

 

During this year’s May Day holiday, the city received a total of 1.7327 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 127.87%, with the tourism revenue of 1.839 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 132.77%. 

 

The number of tourists and tourism revenue both ranked second, the growth rate of tourists ranked third, and the growth rate of tourism revenue ranked second in Hunan.

 

 

Chenzhou is one of the first historical and cultural cities in Hunan, and one of the birthplaces of the Chinese farming culture. 

 

This year, Chenzhou has promoted the deep integration of agriculture, culture, sports, and tourism, with 43 key projects on the integration of culture and tourism. 

 

Yuhou Street, built in Qin Dynasty, is a perfect combination of history, market, and fashion. 

 

Wayaoping Ancient Village is located at the intersection of Leishui and Chenjiang rivers. It has been a waterway transit station connecting Hengyang, Changsha, Shaoguan and Guangzhou since ancient times. It was once a prosperous commercial gathering place in ancient times for at least 2,000 years. On August 26, Wayaoping Ancient Village was opened after renovation, reproducing the past prosperity and making visitors feel as if traveling a thousand years back.

Many famous poets, such as Han Yu, Zhou Dunyi and Qin Guan, has written well-known poems for Chenzhou.

 

 

Also, there are a batch of world-level and national-level intangible cultural heritage items passed down for generations, such as Kuqu Opera, Anren Market Day, Rucheng Dance of Burning Incense Dragon, Jiahe Wedding Songs.

 

Countless historical stories, myths and legends, scenic areas and cultural landscapes all demonstrate the profound historical heritage and rich cultural connotations of Chenzhou.

 

At Beihu Park, water curtain light and shadow shows, open-air movies, starry sky concerts, and tent markets take turns. Wandering in Beihu Shuiyue Isle at night has become a new trend for many citizens and tourists.

 

In Yuhou Street, the ecological corridor is lined with weeping willows, the residential buildings are well-arranged, and cultural and creative arts, bars, homestay inns, and specialty restaurants have gradually settled, which makes it full of new vitality.

 

Scenic areas continue to open at night, business districts get more popular, and night consumption is increasing. The differentiated development of various cultural and tourism consumption gathering areas have attracted a large number of tourists.
