Recently, the Yao people from Tangshi Town, Guiyang County, Chenzhou City, came to the Yao Songs Inheritance Base of Huashan Central School to learn Yao culture with teachers and students.

“This is the crystallization of our culture passed down from generation to generation and through oral transmission from an early time. The lyrics contain deep cultural connotations and human wisdom, so we must inherit it,” said Zhao Wuying, the inheritor of Guiyang Yao songs.
They also displayed Yao martial arts and Yao costumes. Everyone danced to the cheerful music, showing the unique cultural charm of the Yao people.
Guiyang has a rich Yao culture. Guiyang Yao Songs is a kind of folk songs spread among the Yao people. According to statistics, there are nearly one thousand songs.
In order to protect and inherit the Yao culture, Guiyang County designated Huashan Central School as the Yao Songs Inheritance Base.
Guiyang County Cultural Center and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center organize training activities and festivals about Yao songs every year.
At present, “Guiyang Yao Songs” and “Yao Marriage Customs” have been listed as intangible cultural heritage items of Hunan Province.
