Initiatives boost village collective economy

2023-09-28

“This year, the early rice crop is expected to reach a yield around 600 kilograms  each mu (666.67 square meters) thanks to proper management. With a total cultivation area of 55 mu (about 3.67 hectares) this will bring in over 90,000 yuan in income. Currently, we have two machines harvesting the rice, and we’ll plant our late-season rice as soon as that’s done,” said Kang Gaolan, a member of the Village Party branch.

Langshi Village, mainly engaged in traditional rice farming, has taken steps to enhance collective income. They view developing local industries as a key avenue to raise villagers’ incomes and promote the village’s collective economic growth.

Langshi Village has introduced an innovative model for expanding the collective economy. The village cadres mobilized farmers to rent out their land for cultivating double-season rice. The land is managed by larger growers through shareholding and profit-sharing arrangements.

Currently, the early rice cultivated through this village cooperative has resulted in a bountiful harvest, representing the first share of income for the collective economy.

Langshi Village has launched the new rural development plan, which supports individuals with capabilities and skills in industry development from various sectors, including business, entrepreneurship, and retired military personnel. These individuals will receive targeted support.

Some individuals, including Deng Hebing and Huang Guangning, have emerged as leaders in enhancing rural prosperity.

To encourage greater economic contributions, Langshi Village has put in place incentive mechanisms, including reward funds for rural residents who contribute to significant income generation.

Furthermore, a performance assessment system has been introduced, linking assessment outcomes to the performance-based compensation. This dual incentive system, combining rewards and performance-driven motivations, has inspired village officials to be more dedicated in their roles.
