Supply and marketing cooperatives promote rural revitalization

Farm machinery operators are driving harvesters to reap rice in the rice fields of the Supply and Marketing Cooperative in Liaojiang Town, Zixing City. With the roaring of machines, golden rice is “pocketed” by grain trucks after several procedures.

In the grain drying center of the Supply and Marketing Cooperative in Liaojiang Town, Zixing City, the freshly harvested rice is put into the dryer. After being lifted, put into different silos and dried, it can reach the storage standard within one day.
 
“In the past, there was no special drying site, so the harvested rice was all spread on the road. When it rained, the grain would become moldy,” said Li Yewu, a member of the cooperative.
 
Efficient operations have been achieved through agricultural machinery from rice cultivation, transplanting, field management, to harvesting and drying, instead of the traditional manual operations in Liaojiang Town, Zixing City.
 
In recent years, in order to solve the problem of soil abandonment, the cooperative has built a 3,800-square-meter seedling factory greenhouse, which can provide more than 10,000 mu (about 666.67 hectares) of machine-inserted rice seedlings and rapeseed seedlings for more than 1,000 growers every year. 
 
“Only good seedlings can grow good rice. Compared with the seedlings bred by traditional methods, the seedlings we cultivate are more easily able to survive, with good stability and higher yields,” said Li Yewu. “This can not only reduce the production and planting costs of farmers, but also stimulate farmers’ enthusiasm for growing grain, which greatly promotes the steady development of grain cultivation.”

Similarly, Liuhuawan Village of Sandu Town established the Liuhuawan Village Supply and Marketing Cooperative under the guidance of the Zixing Supply and Marketing Cooperative.
 
It highlights the integration of agriculture and tourism, with rural pastoral landscapes, agricultural production activities and characteristic agricultural products as carriers, finding a new path of prosperity in agriculture, farmers and rural areas.
 
In 2023, Liuhuawan Supply and Marketing Cooperative declared agricultural social service projects involving 12,498.4 mu (about 833.23 hectares) to the supply and marketing cooperative system, accounting for 90% of the cultivated land area in the jurisdiction and 55% of the city’s agricultural socialization service area. 
 
“There are 230 million rural households in China, and 210 million farmers operate less than 10 mu (0.667 hectares) of arable land. The situation of small-scale agricultural production and operation is difficult to change in the short term, and the implementation of moderate-scale agricultural socialization services is the general trend.
 
Since the beginning of this year, Liuhuawan Supply and Marketing Cooperative has completed agrochemical services such as deep plowing, rice planting, and flight defense of more than 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) of cultivated land, with an average implementation price of 70%-90% of the market price,” said Yang Sixiang, executive director of Liuhuawan Supply and Marketing Cooperative.

Liuhuawan Supply and Marketing Cooperative also absorbed Bandu Oil Tea Professional Cooperative as a member unit, and created an industrialized business model of “company and cooperative and base and farmer”, driving about 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of oil tea planting, processing and sales in Sandu area.
 
In the first half of 2023, Bandu Oil Tea Professional Cooperative expanded the deep processing and production project of oil tea in Chennan Village, Sandu Town, Zixing City, creating a modern workshop integrating drying, pressing, filling, capping and coding. The whole process is closed and operated aseptically.
 
“The workshop is also equipped with transparent glass, which can be visited by tourists. Every process is clearly visible, so consumers can rest assured,” said Xie Ruiying, chairman of the Bandu Oil Tea Professional Cooperative.
 
“The cooperative is a good platform to integrate resources. At present, Liuhuawan Village Supply and Marketing Cooperative has gathered resources from all parties to create a Liuhuawan Village supply and marketing convenience supermarket integrating daily necessities supermarket, express delivery, agricultural products uplink and financial services, innovated business models, revitalized collective resources, which can meet the needs of villagers in aspects such as shopping, finance, express delivery and reading,” said Yuan Zejun, director of Liuhuawan Village Supply and Marketing Cooperative.
 
Today, Zixing Supply and Marketing Cooperative is leading grassroots supply and marketing cooperatives to promote rural revitalization and the integration of modern agriculture and agricultural machinery services.
